The coast by east celebrates its 10th anniversary

Ten years ago, the coast by east opened its restaurant doors in HafenCity. It was the east Group's second restaurant in Hamburg.

The coast by east is located at the bend of the Großer Grasbrook. Next to the towering Marco Polo Tower, the restaurant's low-rise building nestles against the beach harbour, which is currently being busily built on.
The curved roof construction of the building was designed by the architect collective EMBT from Barcelona and is based on the flapping of a seagull's wings. With its swing and the rounded flank of the building, the building represents an architectural change from the otherwise predominantly cuboid design of HafenCity buildings.

When HafenCity GmbH advertised the location, the east Group applied with its sushi concept. A few weeks later, Christoph Strenger's phone rang and everyone involved got together to implement the innovative project.
In October 2010 the building permit was granted by the Hanseatic city and in May 2012 the building was completed after two years of construction.

A 45-strong, multicultural and always motivated team works for the restaurant, which was designed as sushi and Asian food right from the start. The restaurant has 110 seats inside and a further 100 seats outside on the terrace with a view of the Grasbrookhafen, the Marco Polo Terraces and the Elbphilharmonie on the Kaiserkai.
Since opening in May 2002, the coast by east has welcomed more than 650,000 restaurant and bar guests. Around 200 km of sushi were rolled and the service staff covered an estimated 80,000 km to serve it – that's around two laps around the world.

But the effort is worth it. The coast by east is still one of the best addresses for sushi and the Hanseatic city's gastronomic landscape would be unimaginable without it. With colorful sushi rolls and fresh sashimi, changing Euro-Asian-inspired dishes as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes from the coast kitchen, a large selection of international wines, champagne and creative cocktails, the coast by east offers an extensive range for everyone.
During the corona pandemic, the coast was closed for the first time in eight years. This forced break was used for a series of extensive renovation work. The restaurant has been revamped and freshened up for many more years of catering.
 

About the east cosmos
In addition to the coast by east in Hamburg's HafenCity, the east cosmos also includes the east Hotel & Restaurant and the clouds - Heaven's Bar & Kitchen with the roof terrace clouds heaven's nest in the Tanzenden Türme on the Reeperbahn.
The coast by east Mallorca, the event location uppereast and the pool area The Strand are located in Port Adriano on Mallorca.
